Darko Rundek

On December 18th Rokaj Fest traditionally marks the end of one festival year and announces the next, always better and more exciting! Darko Rundek & Cargo Orkestar gather up exclusively for the occasion of Rokaj party! This popular Darko Rundek's music project evolved from rich collection of his songs, which primarily depict Balkan music tradition, then Europe and Mediterranean, with a combination of reggae, south-american rhythms and electronic sounds.

After ten days of rehearsing in beautiful Burgundy, Rundek, Isabel (violin), Djani Pervan (percussion), Dusan Vranic (piano) and Vedran Peterbel (production) came to a basis for the album "Ruke" which came out in 2003 ("Hands"). But , while working on the album, in 2002. they were joined by Rundek's old collaborator Igor Pavlica (trumpet), Emmanuel Ferraz (trombone) and Bruno Arnal (bass) - and at this point Cargo Okestar emerges, a band whose sound marked Rundek's creativity in the past decade. It is the album "Ruke" that changed Darko Rundek's course in music, and after huge success in Croatia, this album was published in Berlin and distributed in 25 countries, which brings them vast popularity beyond Croatian borders.

After several repeated concerts in Zagreb, in 2006 they published a first live album called "Zagrebacka magla" ("Zagreb Mist"). As a pendant to this album, they also published a live album recorded in Belgrade "Live u Domu Omladine" ("Live at Youth Center") and before that a much praised "Mhm A-ha Oh Yeah Da-Da" during which tour they had sold out venues throughout the region. Since then they performed at Europe's famous festivals, such as Roskilde Festival, Womex, FMM Sines, Kazan Festival and Exit, presenting themselves in various world music rhythms, but at the same time respecting Rundek's twenty year-old music heritage as being one of the most important representatives of Yugoslavia's new wave.

After many speculations of the band's breakup and transition onto somewhat more intimate music formation as a Darko Rundek Trio, they are back on stage! Always lively and festive, Darko Rundek and his Cargo Orkestar are preparing us a mix of their music career, and as an additional treat, we managed to organize voting for an additional song on their set list, one they rarely play on their gigs.
